ABOUT MARION
Marion is a quintessential New England seaside village with a rich maritime heritage dating back to the 1800s. Known locally as the “jewel of Buzzards Bay,” it’s home to one of the most beautiful natural harbors on the East Coast. The town is small and walkable, with a general store, a handful of restaurants, a yacht club, and miles of scenic coastline.Marion sits on the South Coast of Massachusetts, just west of the Cape Cod Canal. While it’s not technically “on the Cape,” it shares the same coastal landscape, the same salt air, and the same access to the region’s beaches and islands — without the summer traffic, bridge delays, and tourist congestion that Cape Cod is known for. Many longtime Cape visitors have discovered Marion as their preferred home base for exploring the entire region. The town is also perfectly positioned between two vibrant cities: New Bedford (20 minutes), with its world-class Whaling Museum, vibrant arts scene, and excellent Portuguese restaurants, and Providence, Rhode Island (50 minutes), with its renowned food scene, RISD Museum, and WaterFire installations.

Marion is well before the Cape Cod bridges, so you skip the bridge traffic entirely.Pro tip: One of the biggest advantages of staying in Marion is that you completely avoid Cape Cod bridge traffic — the notorious bottleneck that can add 1–2 hours to your drive on summer weekends. You’re already on the coast, already at the beach, and already minutes from the ferry terminals.
